i know i'm probably way too late on this song, but i had a trunk full of groceries and sat in the drive way until i heard who this band was, and the name of the song.. bother by stone sour.....it gave me the chills.

Yes, that is a powerful song. Thank you for reminging me of it. Here is one of my favorites with a similar thought, but spun from a christian angle (kinda appropriate for this weekend).

Note that Evanescense is not a "Christian" band, just that this song references...well please read on to find out. Singer is Amy Lee. She has a haunting vocal style that is versatile.

so i laid 1500 sf of sod thursday (approx 2,000 #), and unloaded 1500 # of sand yesterday, and did a whole lot of roto-tilling and raking and dog-turd scooping, not to mention the idiot "helpers" at home depot.. anyway, my poor old body (54 years old) foolishly listened to my 18-year old brain and said (like that little devil on the shoulder): "sure, you can do it, you can do it!!!".

lol.

recently one of my brothers was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder by a psychiatrist.

this has hit me hard emotionally because out of the whole bunch we are the closest.

i've always suspected something was up.

Just want to throw in here that Depakote ER is what I take (I have been on it for several years) to treat my bipolar type II. I spent years going to the regular doctor and being misdiagnosed as having depression. I was treated with oodles of different meds. Some helped a little, some....not so much. One had me waxing the truck at 4:00 in the morning. Others enhanced the suicidal tendencies.

When I finally was refered to a shrink, he correctly diagnosed me within a half an hour, put me on depakote, and within 3 days I felt fine.

My advice: Anybody with a mental ilness should see a psychiatrist for proper diagnosis.

Low carb...............high protein diet

ok so now im more confused than ever.................... i have found out information that says you should eat 1gram of protein to every lb you weigh...............ok i can do that , i thought.

4oz--100gram chicken breast, thats not a lot, but that is not how its calculated .

100 grams of chicken is only 14 g protein.. so if i ate only chicken for a day say 10oz--300 gram................= 1,120 calories ( my limit ) its only 42 grams of protein.. can anyone explain it, have i got it wrong .

I have been on many diets over the years. After doing an enormous amount of research, I feel that the restricted (notice I didn't say "no") carb diet is a great way to go for the weightloss phase of a diet. For a very well balanced explanation and reasoning on the subject, I recommend picking up a copy of "The South Beach Diet". It addresses the faults of other low carb diets such as Atkins. After my research, I would no longer advocate the Atkins diet (although I did lose 45lbs on it). One basic premise of South Beach is to keep (in moderation) unrefined carbs such as whole wheat bread, while ditching the highly processed foods such as white bread which have little nutritional value and effect blood sugar levels by digesting too quickly. Those cravings you are talking about happen because of the blood sugar swings.

I especially care what my wife thinks. She already resents me because I have "put the spiritual headship burden all on her."

And looking at it from another angle, a couple of times I'm manufactured excuse after excuse to avoid the meetings. Sick, working late, bad traffic on my commute, etc. I have successfully missed most meetings for almost a month this way. And afterwards my son looks up at me with his huge doe eyes full of concern and says "Daddy, when are you going to come to meetings with us again?" They don't see someone trying to escape from a cult. They see a family routine activity they've known their whole lives which the father is suddenly not taking part in anymore. Their feelings of abandonment are not indoctrinated, they're honest reactions from vulnerable children.

1) Are you still religious? If so, then that first quote I pulled means that you aren't getting to teach your children what you believe about god. And, since they are your chindren, you should be able to teach them what you feel is right, not just what your wife feels is right. If you aren't religious anymore, then the same still holds true - you get to teach them about not being religious if you want. Your wife doesn't hold all of the cards here. As parents you both get to teach your kids about your beliefs. Please don't let your wife take that away from you. If your wife won't play by those rules, well - do I really need to pull out all the wt lines to help you turn the tables on her? You know all the wt crap on divided houshods, blah, blah. Use the wt info for your advantage for once. That stuff cuts both ways!

2) About that second quote I pulled....Stop and read that for a minute. Really. Read it again if you have to. It sounds like you are feeling guilty for having your own mind just because your kids don't understand. Knock it off will ya? You aren't doing yourself or your kids any favors by giving in to that behaviour (of the kids). Just tell the kids what's what. That you don't want to go to meetings and here's why...reason x, y, z. Not in adult terms ofcourse - do it in a way they will understand - but do it. Trust me when I say that kids are far tougher than to be permanently scarred because you don't want to go to meetings. If you truely don't want your kids in the borg, then showing them how not to be in it is the way to go.

Anyway, hope things get better for you.

Hi Mystla....ya, I've been trying to do what I can. She is one of those hard-core types (you know how nurses are) that seems to be able to work through about anything. Not me. I'm a real wimp.

Hello SirNose! What kind of vodka you ask? Ahh...Sky. Comes in a bright blue bottle...ya can't miss it. This is the first bottle of it we've tried. Now let me tell you why we tried it. You see, it's like this. I'm very sensitive to chemicals. I can't even drink Jack Daniels because of the crap that's in it. If I don't drink a liquor that is of at least decent quality I get enormously sick from the toxins. So, we always try to buy stuff that has been triple distilled. That is the generally accepted minimum that will get out enough toxins. OK, not only is Sky triple distilled, but they also shove the stuff through activated charcoal filters (kinda like water filters). It has almost no scent. And doesn't have any taste (not that you can taste with your tongue numb anyway, heh). It is just pure make-'em-happy juice. One of the manufacturer's ideas is that - if it doesn't make you sick, you'll drink more. Guess what? It works. As evidenced by my post. I had no idea I was getting that blasted. I didn't have a hangover at all either. heh. I don't usually ever end up drunk, so I know I gotta watch it a bit better with this stuff because it's so hard to tell.

The chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter

last year, i bought a few movies for my 16 year old niece when i went on vacation, among them was the movie "the chronicles of narnia (the lion, the witch and the wardrobe).

a few days later my brother called and said that he would like if i came by to pick up the movie as they would not allow their daughter to watch that movie.

(my brother is an elder) when i went to his house the movie was left virtually the same place that i had left it.

When I asked about LOTR and Potter; I was told that in LOTR the humans did not perform magic themselves........I guess I went to a different version of LOTR...those 2 wizards looked pretty human to me.

In the LoTR mythos the wizards have taken on human form (yes there is a mythos in LoTR - with god, angels, good/evil, and the whole nine yards), They are normally of spirit essense and are roughly equivelant in power and status to the Balrog of Moria. Sub-angel might be the right word for the wizards (there were more than 2 in the books). Sub-demon for the Balrog. They do not hold the rank of "angel" or "demon" as we would think of it (there are other creatures that hold those places), but they outrank the immortal elves who never foresook Valinor, and certainly the lesser mortal races such as humans who will never gaze upon the undying lands. His spirit nature is why Gandalf was able to confront the Balrog at the bridge with some success. His wearing of the third elven ring reinforces his power. It is the ring of fire and protects him from the Balrog's flames. Anyway, that is where a bit of the distinction lies about humans not using magic in the books, although it is a very thin excuse. BTW, Sauron is not the equal of Satan in these stories.

The mythos is spelled out in the book "The Silmarillian". It has been lampooned, but really the style is the of the ancients greeks. Given that the book is supposed to cover ancient history (from the perspective of someone living in the Thrid Age of Middle Earth), I find the style to be appropriate.

I have now put on my +3 Armor of Dorkiness in case anybody wants to take a shot.

Computer Geeks, help me format my hardrive...........please!

ok, i have a copy of windows xp.........and a floppy that wont work when i boot..........so i was told to reboot, and hit f2 and change the booting sequence..........that doesnt work either..... it just keeps rebooting in normal mode.

any one wanna help?.

I am very proud of you! Many people find it scary to work on their computer. You have accomplished one of the most difficult software tasks by putting the operating system on your computer and should feel great about it! Make sure to run Microsoft Update so that you can get security fixes. You can start a manual update by selecting it from your All Programs menu.
